20th Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival

Thursday 27 – Sunday 30 March 2025 | From 10 am until late | The Maltings’ Cinema and across Berwick-upon-Tweed

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival (BFMAF) is the UK’s festival for new cinema and artists’ moving image based in North Northumberland on the English border with Scotland.

This year’s expansive 20th Anniversary programme will feature 53 films, 8 World Premieres, the opening of a new venue, the debut of the discursive New Cinema Forum, and three radical Focus programmes. The films in the programme centre marginalised bodies and histories, embrace collaboration, and draw our gaze to sites of struggle, community, and resistance.

Celebrate 20 years of transformative cinema with Q&As, workshops, conversations and parties over four days at venues around the historic Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Free exhibitions open 10:00 – 17:00 – Cinema Programmes on from 10:00 – 23:00 – Parties from 23:00 – 01:00

Songs of the North East

Friday 4th April | 7.30pm – 9.15pm | The Maltings, Berwick-upon-Tweed  TD15 1AJ

Songs of the North East celebrates the music and stories of this distinctive region from the 1800s to the present day. Internationally renowned opera and concert stars Graeme Danby and Valerie Reid perform favourites including Blow the Wind Southerly, Waters of Tyne, The Keel Row as well as songs by Mark Knopfler and Sting. This is a unique opportunity to hear voices more usually found on the great concert and opera stages of the world.
