Berwick Riding of the Bounds 2026

Over 400 years of history, horses and community spirit

Every year on the Saturday of the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, Berwick-upon-Tweed comes alive with colour, pageantry and pride as horses and riders take to the streets for the Riding of the Bounds – a centuries-old tradition that celebrates the town’s border, its people, and its past.

Rooted in a Royal Charter dating back to 1609, this is more than just a ride – it’s a living link to Berwick’s heritage. Today, it’s kept alive by passionate volunteers, Principal Riders, and the wider community.

Whether you’re a rider, a history lover, or just someone who loves a good spectacle – there’s a place for you in the Riding of the Bounds.
